Men's gatherings in Hamilton and Grimsby

Sons of Scripture gathers men every Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, alternating week to week between 321 Hunter Rd in Grimsby and Carisma Church at 1239 Main St E in Hamilton. Each night runs in three parts: fellowship and check-ins, Scripture and teaching, then prayer. There is no registration form and nothing to sign up for.

Locations

Where and when does Sons of Scripture meet?

Two chapters, about 26 km apart. They alternate, so a gathering happens every Saturday and each location hosts every other week. The banner above always names the next one.

Men travel in from Stoney Creek, Winona, Beamsville, Vineland and St. Catharines as well as the two host cities. If you are coming from further out in Niagara, the Grimsby week is the shorter drive; from anywhere on the mountain or the east end of Hamilton, take the Hamilton week.

The pattern

What actually happens in the two hours?

The same three movements every week, in the same order, so nobody walks in wondering what is about to be asked of them.

The three parts of a Saturday gathering

7:00 PM	Heavy Iron	Fellowship and check-ins around a table. Men say where they are winning, where they are drifting, and what they are carrying this week.	Nothing. Listen for as many weeks as you want to.
7:30 PM	Sword & Spirit	Scripture and teaching. A passage, the doctrine underneath it, and what it demands of a man on Monday morning. Questions and disagreement are normal.	Follow along. Ask anything.
8:15 PM	Altar & Fire	Prayer. Men pray for one another out loud over family, health, addiction, work, and surrender. Brothers lay hands on brothers who ask for it.	Nothing out loud, and nobody touches you without asking.

Men usually stay talking after 9:00 PM. Leaving early is normal and nobody comments on it. The reason the shape never changes is the one Proverbs 27:17 gives: iron sharpens iron, and that needs repetition rather than novelty.

Your first Saturday

What should I expect on a first visit?

Honestly: it is a room of men, a table, Bibles, coffee, and a conversation that gets real faster than you expect. Here is the part most sites leave out.

You will be noticed, and that is the point

It is a small room, so a new man is obvious. Somebody will introduce himself and ask your name and where you are from. You will not be asked to explain your spiritual condition to the group.

You do not have to speak

Check-ins go around the table, and passing is a normal thing men do. Say "I will listen tonight" and it moves on. Several men listened for a month before they said anything.

You do not have to know the Bible

The teaching names the book, chapter and verse out loud and waits for people to find it. If you have never opened a Bible, that is a completely ordinary way to arrive.

Giving is separate from the gathering

Support for the ministry is handled on the support page, not at the door. If you decide later that you want to help carry the costs, that is entirely your call and nothing about a Saturday depends on it.

It is not a substitute for church

Sons of Scripture is a men's ministry, not a church. It gathers on Saturday evening precisely so it does not compete with Sunday. Commitment to a local church is part of what this brotherhood pushes men toward, which is set out in the statement of beliefs.

Practicalities

What should I bring?

Very little. A Bible if you own one and something to write with covers it.

Which Saturday is Grimsby and which is Hamilton?

They alternate week to week, so each chapter hosts every other Saturday. Rather than counting, read the banner at the top of this page. It names the date, city and street address of the next gathering and updates itself.

Do I need to be a Christian to come?

No. Men arrive at every stage, including men who are not sure they believe any of it and men who have not been near a church in twenty years. What this ministry holds is published openly in the statement of beliefs so you know what you are walking into. It is not a test at the door.

Do I have to pray out loud?

No. In the prayer segment men pray for each other out loud, and plenty of men in the room have never done that and are not expected to. If somebody wants to pray over you, they will ask first.

Can I come to both chapters?

Yes, and some men do. The rotation means a man who comes every Saturday sees both rooms and both sets of brothers.

What if I can only stay an hour?

Come for the hour. Men arrive late off shift and leave early for family all the time. The first segment is the fellowship and check-ins, so an hour still gets you into the room properly.

Is there anything for my wife or family?
